Paintings

Marie-Lou Desmeules’ paintings form a distinct body of work within her practice, developed primarily in acrylic on canvas.

Centered on portraiture, color, and presence, these works combine bold composition, vibrant surfaces, and a strong pop sensibility. They explore the figure not as a fixed identity, but as an image charged with style, attitude, and cultural memory. Her paintings have been exhibited in Canada, Germany, and Spain, including at IVAM, the Museum of Illustration and Modern Art in Valencia. They are held in private collections internationally.

DIVAS

The Divas series portrays iconic women whose images have shaped popular culture, style, and collective imagination. Created with acrylic and spray paint, the works emphasize color, presence, and visual intensity. Rather than simple homage, the series treats the diva as a constructed figure: admired, projected onto, and transformed into myth through the force of her image.

DOMINATION IN COLOR

Explore human sexuality's intimacy through a large-format painting collection blending Rothko-inspired backgrounds and intricate strokes, inviting viewers to experience sensuality with a touch of naivety, capturing complicity and intimacy while celebrating its beauty and complexity.

FEMMES FATALES

The Femmes Fatales series explores female figures charged with intensity, seduction, danger, and theatrical presence. Created in acrylic on canvas, the works use bold color, strong contrast, and stylized composition to approach the femme fatale not as a cliché, but as a constructed image of power, mystery, and projection. Each portrait holds a tension between glamour and threat, beauty and control, surface and psychology.
